Suit up, because this ride never ends. In fact, the older I get, the louder my thoughts, the busier my brain, the faster the game.

Harnessing the power of my ADHD mind is my favourite new fight. It’s allowed me to better understand my son, my past, my habits and life choices, and as a result, it’s taken me four decades to have a clue who I am.

Welcome to the place where the world’s most underqualified medical thoughts are dished up as readily as my desire to share my journey. It’s a desire fuelled by year upon year upon decade upon overall existence spend apologizing, hiding and downplaying.

Pretending I could be still, calm and confident in my mind. Shamefully knowing that, unlike my much more level-headed teammates in the swimming pool, colleagues in the workplace, friends and lovers throughout my life, it would never quiet, rarely empower, and My busy brain could be counted on to show up loudest when I needed it the most. To cripple me with doubt and fear at the most crucial moment – mid-race, mid-sentence, mid-life. I have lived an entire life in a place where quiet consistency doesn’t exist. Boredom come unease come reactiveness come risky behaviour are always on the ready, and set on repeat. Craving stimulus, adventure, adversity, change.

My adult-sized ADHD diagnosis mere months ago has been the greatest gift in the longest while. Dive in because I’m going deep. Embracing, loving, understanding, and yes, shouting about it, because I finally can.And how, because I'm told it's possible, to foster a family, maintain friendships and find your deeper self along the way. And to pop out the other end better, wiser and wealthier than you began. Imagine.

I am 1000 miles from writing the how-to, but having launched more than a dozen businesses, sidelined hundreds of others, and spent more than a decade as a self-funded entrepreneur in startup land, I have a few things to say.

It's a battle to be sure.

Running a business can wreck you. It will gut your plans, steal your sanity and then take your house. It is also the most fulfilling work you can dream of doing, if living with purpose and joy is your juicy jam.

So. If only there were a few more truths told along the way about the endless layers in the good, bad and beautiful entrepreneurial journey, perhaps the wins would outweigh the struggle.

Where to start, when to grow, how to finance, when to quit. What levers to pull, which to avoid, what a finish line looks like. What tools, skills and strategies you need to consciously run a winning business without losing your mind or 20 years off your life. And how, because I'm told it's possible, to foster a family, maintain friendships and find your deeper self along the way. And to pop out the other end better, wiser and wealthier than you began. Imagine.
